On the 31st January a group site visit had been organised to the Springfield brewery, the site visit was arranged to meet with the appointed Site agent Steve who works with the university on this project. Steve had met us on site which gave us a good background of the site and its history and the future plans for the site for the university. Work had already been done on the site for the West Midlands UTC building which was completed back in 2015 by Associated Architects however more work will be carried out for the use of the University of Wolverhampton. Work on site had already started as it seemed with the asbestos contractors being on site which started to extract any asbestos on the existing blocks. During our site visit I had taken some pictures which shown the current stage of the site and the buildings.
The more we walked around the site the more of the building we all saw, there were some part of the buildings that has been already worked on which shown the internal partition walls being installed and new window openings being installed. The pictures we had taken shows the window openings the developers had done during the development stages. It has been mentioned in the express and star that Taylor Wimpley had the laid the foundations for proposed housings
Steve the site agent had mentioned how previous work had already been done which then stopped back in 2011 due to the financial crises.
When the site had caught fire so much damage had been caused to the brewery which caused the current structure to look less robust, the brick walls had gone black from the smoke of the fire had taken off the roof this kept an open building. The overall site had shown a lifeless site with the potential for the future and that is what we plan to do.
